Adobe Photoshop is the professional software package for graphics designers. Photoshop provides the features needed to manipulate images, layout documents, enhance photographs and produce professional output for both print and web media.
Photoshop is the industry standard and current leading graphic design package that forms part of the Adobe Creative Suite. Included with Photoshop is Adobe Bridge; an image management program designed to work between all of Adobe's packages enabling the quick and easy transfer of documents and design components between Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Dreamweaver, increasing workflow and making managing the design process even easier.
The Photoshop training course aims to develop a knowledge of the tools, features, workspace and how to work effectively when producing design work for either print or web. All skills needed to design flyers or website components through to professional photographic manipulation techniques are comprehensively covered.
Course Requirements
To attend the Introduction to Adobe Photoshop training course you should have experience using either the Windows or Mac interface and be capable of basic file management. No previous graphic design software skills or experience is required, but an eye for design and a creative mind is always beneficial.
Course Description
The training course structure comes from the actual use of Photoshop in professional industries. The course starts with a look at the Photoshop interface and how this can be configured to best suit the designer as well as the media that is being created. Initial document setup is well covered as often this decides what is possible within the Photoshop working environment. With Adobe Bridge linking the other Creative Suite packages together the course looks at the management of resources in this vital tool.
Creating professional looking imagery for print or web is covered with the image manipulation tools. Correcting or rescuing an image is possible with knowledge of Photoshop's level and curve tools while making images a little more dramatic can be achieved through careful use of controls such as hue and saturation and the blurring and sharpening tools.
The course then looks at cleaning up product shots using a combination of masking techniques with an introduction to effectively using the magic wand, quick mask and lasso tools. Combining these techniques with colour control and filters can result in top quality professional looking stock shots. This leads into the use of professional touch up techniques for enhancing imagery using the healing tools and the removal of unwanted objects.
Effectively using layers is a massive part of the flexibility within Photoshop and the course highlights this with the use of smart objects and blending modes. There is also a focus on organisation using layer folder structures to enable better workflow in web and print projects.
Typography is covered with a look at working with fonts and styles and the formatting of entire blocks of content. There is also an in depth look at layer styles and how typography can be manipulated and enhanced.
Finally, the course covers the process of outputting documents for various types of media and the optimisation of file formats both manually and automatically.
